Birdsong

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Eddie Mae Birdsong, 76, of Greenville are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Sept. 8, 2010, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Greenwood.

Drain

BELZONI — Funeral services for Ora Lee Drain, 76, of Belzoni will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Macedonia MB Church, Belzoni. She died Sept. 2, 2010, at Patient’s Choice Medical Center, Belzoni. Burial will be in Humphreys County Memorial Garden, Belzoni, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Belzoni.

Survivors include his sons, the Rev. Percy Puckett, Tommie Forman and Billy Joe Forman, all of Belzoni; daughters, Earnestine Forman and Lillie Holmes, both of Belzoni; and brother, Harrington Walker of Syracuse, N.Y.

Visitation will be today from noon to 5 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Belzoni.

The Rev. James Carter will officiate.

Ferguson

BILOXI — Funeral services for Perry Lee “Nappy Brown” Ferguson, 62, of Biloxi, and formerly of Greenville, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Old Jerusalem MB Church, Greenville. He died Sept. 5, 2010, in Greenville. Burial will be in Delta Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Perry Ferguson was born February 18, 1948, the oldest child to the late Willie and Pearlie Ferguson. Perry was baptized at an early age by the Rev. Clarence Johnson at Shady Grove MB Church. He later relocated to Santa Ana, Calif. where he continued his religious faith. Perry later moved to Biloxi, Miss. and united with New Bethel MB Church pastored by the Rev. Kenneth E. Hollins. Prior to his demise, Perry had been set aside to become a deacon. He was a member of the church male choir and always willing to do anything in the church. Perry attended Greenville Public Schools, where he graduated from T.L. Weston High School in 1967. Perry joined the U.S. Army receiving an honorable discharge. He also served as treasurer of Vernon Gilbert Lodge #576, Gulf Coast Temple #471. He was united in holy matrimony to Minnie Williams on August 20, 2005. Perry worked as a civil defense employee where he later retired after 25 years of service.

Perry was preceded in death by his mother and father; son, Patrick; brothers, Jerry and Eddie; sister, Debra; and grandparents, Andrew and Ozzie Moore, and Bessie Ferguson.

He is survived by a loving wife, Minnie Ferguson of Biloxi; father, Albert Bingham of Flint, Mich.; two sons, Ivory Griffin of Corpus Christi, Texas and Perry Ferguson Jr. of Biloxi; five daughters, Yolanda Ferguson of Norwalk, Calif., Porcia’ (Ron) Chalk of Chicago, Ill., Katisha (Meritt) Williams of Horn Lake, Chonchetta (Johnathan) Smith of Locust Grove, Ga. and Jamie Cox of Locust Grove, Ga.; seven brothers, Daniel Bingham, Willie Ferguson Jr., Ted Bell, Michael Bell, Jimmy Graham, Barry Baker and Marvin Perkins; 10 sisters, Barbara Birt, Jacqueline Williams, Sandra Ferguson, Angela White, Darlene Alexander, Shelia Bell, Ruby Davis, Valentine Ferguson, Joyce Bell and Francis Perkins; uncles, Haywood Moore, Al Ferguson Sr. and John Ferguson Sr.; aunts, Willie Mae Wilson and Lillie Snyder; his very special aunt, Laverne Moore (Lester) Carter; 19 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and many, many friends.

On Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, after enjoying a great week-end with his T.L. Weston Alumni Classes of 1966-1970. The Lord said to him, servant, you have fought a good fight, now it is time to relinquish all your pains. “Its time to come home and rest, servant well done.”

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home Chapel, Greenville. Remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Gamill

BELZONI — Funeral services for Mary Lee Gamill, 50, of Belzoni will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Goodwill MB Church, Belzoni. She died Sept. 5, 2010, at Greenwood/ Leflore County Hospital, Greenwood. Burial will be in New Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Belzoni, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Belzoni.

Survivors include his father, Sam Gamill of Belzoni; his son, James E. Gamill of Belzoni; his daughters, Shannon Gamill and Angela Gamill, all of Belzoni; brothers, Rickey Gamill, Donnell Gamill, Michael Gamill, Sam Gamill III and Earnest Gamill, all of Belzoni; and a sister, Annette Gamill of Belzoni.

The Rev. Clinton Simpson will officiate.

Hudson

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Lou Emma Hudson, 81, of Greenville will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Rest MB Church, Greenville. She died Sept. 1, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital, Little Rock, Ark. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; a daughter; and a son.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda K. (Charles) Smith of Gurnee, Ill., Jeanetta Redfield of Greenville and Patricia Neal of Chicago, Ill.; one son, Clyde (Lee Chrystal) Redfield of Palos Hill, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including a niece raised as a sister, Charlene Dixon of Leland.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home Chapel, Greenville. Remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Hutchins

INDIANOLA — Funeral services for Hazel Hutchins, 81, of Indianola will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bell Grove MB Church, Indianola. She died Sept. 3, 2010, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Gardens, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

She is survived by her brother, Elson Gee of Inverness; sisters, Hattie Gee and Magnolia Tipton, both of Chicago, Ill., Beatrice (Eugene) Catlin of Vicksburg and Mary Alice (Russell) Dunn of Inverness; sons, Larry Hutchins, Joe (Shirley) Hutchins, David Hutchins and Solomon (Florida) Hutchins, all of Indianola; daughters, Doris (Al) Brown, Callie (S.B.) Jones and Mary (J.W.) King, all of Indianola; 29 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

McDowell

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Renard V. McDowell, 38, of Greenville will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Myrtle Grove MB Church, Winterville. He died Aug. 31, 2010, at Cleveland Medical Mall, Cleveland. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Winterville, under the direction of T.L. Redmon Funeral Home, Cleveland.

McKinney

SUNFLOWER — Funeral services for Wayne McKinney, 60, of Sunflower will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bell Grove MB Church, Indianola. He died Sept. 3, 2010, at South Sunflower County Hospital, Indianola. Burial will be in Willing Workers Cemetery, Sunflower, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Miller

ROSEDALE — Funeral services for Stephen L. Miller, 38, of Rosedale will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rosedale Middle School. He died Sept. 1, 2010, in Rosedale. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Beulah, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Survivors include his mother and father, Gloria Cooper and Gene Cooper, both of Beulah; his wife, Catherine Miller of Beulah; sons, Steven and Kelvin Ramiz of Cleveland, Earl Taylor of Rosedale and Timothy Taylor of Madison Wis.; daughters, Tammynesha Ramiz of Cleveland and Kaneshia Banks of Beulah; brothers, Tristan Cooper of Beulah, Keary and Andre Cooper of Beulah, John, Demarcus and Kendall Booth of Memphis, and Deon Cooper of Fla.; and sisters, Regina Miller of Beulah, Monica Booth of Memphis, Gloria and Toni Cooper, and Tasha Lewis, all of Rosedale, Reases Pittman and Tara Cooper of Cleveland, and Nikie Peoples of Harvard, Ill.

Newson

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Maxine Newson, 75, of Greenville will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Greenville. She died Sept. 5, 2010, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Survivors include one child, Lachelle (Adam) Stallworth of Chicago; two grandchildren, Bria Stallworth and Adam Stallworth, both of Chicago; mother, Elnora Lee of Greenville; three brothers, Edward (Daisy) Sanders Sr. of Burben, Ill., Harrison (Pearline) Jefferson Jr. of Chicago and Gregory Porter of Greenville; one niece whom she raised, Elnora Newman of Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Vaughn

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Julious Vaughn, 67, of Greenville are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Sept. 7, 2010, at St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital, Jackson.

Ware

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Barbara Johnson Ware, 67, of Greenville will be 10 a.m. Friday at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville. She died September 7, 2010, at her home in Greenville. Burial will be in Hollandale Cemetery, under the direction of Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was a native of Avon and graduated from Hollandale High School. She and her husband, Ralph, owned and operated Sears Catalog Store in Rolling Fork from 1976 to 1994, then moved to Greenville where she was employed at the Greenville Welcome Center and McRae’s (Belk). She was a member of Darlove Baptist Church.

Her husband preceded her in death in February 2009 and she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Troy and Ben Johnson.

She is survived by two daughters, Gwen Holcomb (Eddie) of Grace and Carol Hunter (Scott) of Glen Allan; three sisters, Shirley Pate of Belzoni, Janie Gossage of Wayside and Eloise Clark of Wayside; special friend, Brad Morgan of Greenville; and 8 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Boone-Wells Funeral Home, Greenville.

Weidemann

HUACHUCA CITY, ARIZ. — Graveside services for David (Dave) C. Weidemann, 72, of Huachuca City, Ariz. were at 10 a.m. Sept. 2, 2010, at the Old Post Cemetery on Fort Huachuca with military honors with a reception following at the American Legion. He died August 26, 2010, at his home. Arrangements were under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Home, Sierra Vista.

Dave was born in Amsterdam, N.Y., on May 10, 1938, to Caryl J. (Knapp) and Albert O. Weidemann. He joined the U.S. Army in 1960. He died two tours in Vietnam and served in Germany and Korea. Dave was stationed on Fort Huachuca, Ariz., in 1978 and decided to make Arizona his home. He retired as a master sergeant in 1986 after 26 years of active duty service.

Dave was active with the VFW Post #9972, The American Legion Post # 52 and the Elks Lodge in Sierra Vista. He was known throughout the VFW as the Rabbi for being the chaplain for 10 years. Dave will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Caryl J. And Albert O. Weidemann.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Catherine J. (Crowe) Weidemann of Huachuca City; his children, Carolyn J. (Mick) DeBee of Katy, Texas, Loretta A. Weidemann of Huachuca City and David B. Weidemann of Fort Riley, Kan.; his brother, Bruce (Bill) Weidemann of Benton, Ark.; his sister, Judy (Allen) Jones of Greenville; two grandchildren, Joshua (Megan) DeBee of Fort Lewis, Wash. and James DeBee of Texas; a great-granddaughter, Chloe DeBee of Fort Lewis, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

White

INDIANOLA — Funeral services for Annie White, 53, of Indianola will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shady Grove MB Church, Inverness. She died August 31, 2010, at South Sunflower County Hospital, Indianola. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Gardens, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include her husband, William Lockhart of Indianola; sons, William Lockhart Jr. and Alexander Otis Lockhart, both of Indianola; sisters, Rosiland White, Phamie White and Diana White, all of Los Angeles, Calif., Juanita Ross of Indianola and Dorothy Harrington of Kansas City, Mo.; brothers, John Lee White of Chicago, Ill. and W.C. White of Mansfield, Ohio; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. in Indianola.

Williams

PANTHER BURN — Funeral services for Ora Mae Williams, 81, of Panther Burn will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion MB Church, Percy. She died Sept. 1, 2010, in Lancaster, Texas. Burial will be in Sanders Memorial Gardens, Hollandale, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Hollandale.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willie D. Williams Sr.; and two children, Robert and James.

Survivors include eight children, Willie D. (Linda) Williams of Chicago, Ill., JoAnn (Larry) Shorter of Lawrence, Kan., David (Anita) Williams of Chicago, Stanley (Myra) Williams of Lawrence, Kan., Tommy Williams of Sarasoto, Fla., Joyce (Calvin) Summerville and Troy Williams, both of Lancaster, Texas, and Linda Williams (Steve) Tucker of Panther Burn; 25 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five sisters; eight brothers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

INDIANOLA — Funeral services for Robert Worship, 71, of Indianola will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Baptist Church, Indianola. He died Sept. 6, 2010, at University Medical Center, Jackson. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Gardens, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Worship of Indianola; brothers, Willie (Marie) Worship and Earl (Mary) Worship, both of Indianola; sisters, Alice Stringfellow and Rosie Triplett, both of Indianola, and Nannie (John) Willard of Memphis, Tenn.; and sisters-in-law, Bertha Worship of Indianola and Jeanella Worship of Memphis, Tenn.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. with a family hour from 6 to 7 p.m.
