Washington School’s Allie Stevens is a better pitcher this year and it has little to do with her mechanics. In a 6-0 victory over Carroll Academy on Monday, Stevens pitched another shutout gem to bring her record to 8-2 this season. Stevens said the victories are due to her total trust in her teammates.
LELAND — For for the last 25 years Coach Eugene Sanders has been outside Leland High School most every afternoon changing lives.
“Come on. Let’s go,” he says sternly, with his trademark gruff voice to the players on the Leland High School football team.
As brothers are apt to do from time to time, Jon Reed McLendon and Jordan McLendon had their fair share of fights as they grew up. One time when they were both young teenagers they got into such a scuffle that their father took them to a cemetery afterwards to teach them a lesson.
The eight seniors on this year’s O’Bannon High School football team mostly observed last season. There were 21 seniors on last year’s O’Bannon squad who helped the Greenwaves record a 10-2 record.
While they were not in the limelight, they were learning what it takes to lead.
Under new coach Quintarus McCray, there is a new sense of optimism for the Greenville High School football team. At practice, the passes are crisp, the cuts are sharp, the drills are exact, and the enthusiasm is palpable for the Hornets who begin their season August 24 at Gentry.
With temperatures soaring into the mid-90s Wednesday, the girls soccer players on both the St. Joseph Catholic School and Washington School teams needed every water break they could get. Every 10 minutes, in fact, the 80-minute game was stopped for rest and hydration.

Kaleb Lockett is more than just a fun friend for St. Joseph Catholic School football stars Dillon Johnson and Trey Benson. He is also a talented football player.
While Kaleb, who will be a junior this year, is known for his quick wit and funny jokes, he is more recognized for what he brings to the Irish football team.
