A 20-year-old male has been charged with capital murder for the death of a 70-year-old in Greenville this weekend.
The Greenville Police Department arrested and charged 20-year-old white male Nicholas Savage, who also goes by Xan McClendon Jr., with capitol murder for his involvement with the death of 70-year-old white male William Rochelle, according to Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant.
At 1:39 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, officers with the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of Oak Drive for an unresponsive person.
Emergency medical personnel and the Washington County Coroner were called to the scene, where Rochelle was pronounced dead.
Rochelle’s body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
“During the preliminary investigation, investigators discovered that the victim was physically assaulted by Savage. … The investigation revealed the motive may have been a previous altercation between the victim and Savage,” Merchant said.
Savage was denied bond by Judge Tonya Franklin.
Savage’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 31, but is subject to change, according to Merchant.
