Hit and run investigation continues

Reports of shots fired, resulted in an investigation that determined a a 30 year-old black male was struck by a vehicle and is now in critical condition.

According to the Greenville Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 1400th block of East Union Street Friday, June 28 at 11:40 p.m. for reports of shots being fired in the area.

“Upon officer’s arrival, they located a black male laying in the roadway,” Assistant Chief Micheal Merchant said in a statement. “Officers checked the subject and could not confirm the subject had been shot. 

“Upon further investigation of the incident, it was determined that the subject was struck by a motor vehicle that had already departed the scene,” Merchant continued, noting officers could not confirm that any shots were fired in the area.

The subject was transported to Delta Regional Medical Center and later flown to University of Mississippi Medical Center were he is listed in critical condition.  

“Investigators are actively following up all information about the accident.,” Merchant said.  “Anyone with any information is asked to call the Greenville Police Department or Crime stoppers.”
