Cutting a rug for a good cause is exactly what the Greenville Arts Council is giving folks an opportunity to do next weekend.

The Legendary Kattawar Brothers will be performing live in concert from 6:30-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at E.E. Bass Auditorium with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

Rendering sounds of juke-joint style tunes, the concert will benefit the Greenville Arts Council (GAC) and tickets cost $25 a piece.

Happy-half-hour begins at 6 p.m. with a cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres.

Seating is first-come, first-serve as there is no reserved seating for the event.

There will be a handful of tables and chairs.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Greenville Arts Council, 323 S. Main St., or online, eventbrite.com/e/the-kattawar-brothers-in-concert-tickets-86217786721

“They’re fabulous,” Greenville Arts Council executive director Eleanor Wright said of the brotherly duo. “And, they’re from Greenville.”

When asked how the soulful siblings came to be the main attraction for the night, Wright said the brothers actually reached out to the GAC.

“The Kattawar Brothers contacted us,” Wright said. “They are from Greenville, they love Greenville, they are big art components, and they are promoting the arts.

“They believe in the Greenville Arts Council and they’re helping raise money for the Greenville Arts Council,” she said.

Wright said not only is she excited the concert will 100% benefit the GAC, she added the event and the mission of the GAC means a great deal to the council as well as the Kattawar Brothers.

One half of the talented twosome, Jerry, said he couldn’t have possibly passed up an opportunity to perform in his hometown.

He said he told Wright, “We’d absolutely love to come down and do it, it’s like coming again.”

This will be the Kattawar Brothers’ first time playing at E.E. Bass but not their first time being at the venue as they attended school there in their younger days.

“We’re looking forward to being there with all of our friends and people we were raised with and went to school with…we’re very excited,” Jerry said, adding they’ve got a really great show planned for the Mississippi Delta.

“We’re also bringing in an additional guest entertainer who has volunteered to play with us, a violinist,” he said.

According to Jerry Kattawar, Ashley Rose is a Las Vegas entertainer who has performed in shows with Michael Buble and Rod Stewart.

“She’s very talented,” he said.

For those attending who want to boogie, Wright said that will be no problem.

“There will be plenty of room to dance!” she excitedly said.

About the Kattawar Brothers

According to their website, kattawarbrothers.com, Jerry and his brother, Mike, have put together a two-piece drums and piano duo. The Kattawar Brothers continue to be much in demand for audiences both large and small, young and old. They are keeping alive the music traditions of the Deep South as well as the stories of its musicians, many of whom they have known.

The brothers grew up in Greenville, listening to the blues late at night on WLAC from Nashville. They got interested in the music of Delta artists B.B. King, Muddy Waters, and others through these programs and began trying to learn to play themselves.

Their dedication to the blues and to the music of the Delta make Mike and Jerry ideal presenters of the blues as well.
