Delta Health Alliance, Leland School District and the City of Leland have partnered together to bring some positive changes to Leland School Park.
The Leland School Park Revitalization project was created to transform Leland School Park’s outdoor recreation area hasn’t been fully utilized for several years. Doing this will make a positive impact on children’s physical health, mental health and nutritional needs, Caroline Willis, Vice President of Educational Programs for DHA, said.
The project includes completely remodeling the baseball field and turning it into a community garden, walking trail and soccer field.
Willis said the changes are being done in an effort to decrease obesity, increase neighborhood health and well being and to to ensure this partnership can develop a community that is meeting the needs of children and adults in a safe and fun space.
Jessie King, superintendent of LSD, said they started planning the project in the spring and hopes to see it completed by spring of 2020.
“The Leland School District is fortunate through partnership in multiple opportunities, especially with Delta Health Alliance, the City of Leland and Washington County Board of Supervisors in the redesign of the Leland School Park recreation area. The school and community will receive multiple benefits for years to come through the revitalization of George Holloway Park, community garden, walking park and soccer field.”
The city is first cleaning the area by removing trees and debris in order to continue with the renovations.
