The first day of school for students in Washington County is only a few weeks away, but there is still a lot of uncertainty, and plenty of opinions, about how and when school should begin. 
Greenville High School football coach Quintarus McCray was happy to get the news Tuesday afternoon that his football team will now begin their season two weeks later on Sept. 4 on the road against Ruleville.
The Office of the Mayor recently announced they learned a City Hall employee in the planning department has tested positive for COVID-19.
Today, the Greenville City Council called a special call meeting to discuss the urgency in requiring masks and/or face coverings after a recent surge in COVID-19 cases.
About $67,000,000 in Paycheck Protection Programs loans were distributed in the last three months in Washington County.


Precious Preemies Hit the Runway Fashion Show takes place Saturday

Local residents will have the opportunity to watch children strut their stuff for a worthy cause.

My Preemie & Me organization is hosting their first ever Precious Preemies Hit the Runway Fashion Show from 3-5 p.m. this Saturday at the TESC Buiding, 745 Main St. The commentator for this event will be Shequeta Wells-Murphy. 







Washington County, statewide results are in, absentee ballots still being tallied

Incumbents held on to each of their seats except in the District 4 supervisor vote won by Mala Brooks by a mere 13 votes over incumbent Jesse Amos. The more than 700 absentee ballots have yet to be counted in any races as of press time.

Of the 32,026 registered voters in Washington County, 11001 cast ballots in the Tuesday election.



Reeves wins governor's race

Republicans are keeping their hold on the governorship in Mississippi, despite facing the best-funded Democrat in more than a decade.

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves on Tuesday defeated Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood and two candidates who ran low-budget campaigns.
