Greenville has a storied history with blues that goes back generations where many famous musicians from all musical genres came here in pursuit of advancement and better career possibilities.
The Mississippi Delta Blues and Heritage Festival has presented countless number of blues notes and moments to millions of blues fans. Greenville is home to many talented blues musicians who got their start on Historic Nelson Street.
From Mississippi Slim to Eden Brent, the Blues is king in Greenville and across the Delta. It is a privilege for our city and county to host the oldest blues festival in the world! This historic festival, which is a premier event presented by Mississippi Action for Community Education (MACE), features a weeklong of festivities commencing with the Mayor’s Blues Reception on Monday, Sept. 13, and culminating with the Delta Blues Festival on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021. This year’s Mayor’s Blues Reception will be held Monday, September 13, 2021 at six o’clock in the evening at Schelben Park. There will be a LIVE performance from recording artist, J-Wonn. Food and drinks will also be available.
