After a very comprehensive recap of its 2020-2021 State 2A Championship basketball season, the Greenville Christian Saints finally got a chance to don their championship rings in a ceremony on Sunday.
The beautifully crafted jewelry with a black foundation and silver trim was perfectly accented with the red and blue Saints uniform colors. “We received our rings on Thursday while we were at a basketball camp,” said Saints head coach Logan Collins. “I wouldn’t let them see them until tonight. And we wanted to make our ring ceremony one where we recognized players throughout our team for honors that they’ve revived this season.”
Collins illustrated how the team that came up just a slither from being the overall state champ was forged not only by the play on the court but also from the support roles that students and staff played in shooting video, running concessions, doing play by play, driving buses, and keeping statistics.
The Saints had three players named to All-MAIS first team (Daishun Scott, DJ Smith and Will Riley) and five players named to the District 4-2A first team along with three on the second team. Individual honors within the were voted on by the team with the the top three finalists being highlighted on a video voiced over by Jon Reed McLendon. The video also featured some of the Saints sharp shooters like Erik Ekanem, Josh Martin, Jeremiah Hilliard and Josh Curtis.
