Rotary District Governor applauds local club for polio eradication efforts

At Thursday’s weekly Greenville Rotary Club Meeting, District Governor for Rotary 6820 Mark Fields delivered a keynote message that encompassed the ruthless efforts toward eliminating the polio virus and expanding the Rotary’s connection to the world.



1 man arrested in connection to shooting child

A man is behind bars for a shooting that sent a 12-year-old girl to a Jackson hospital, and more arrests are expected to follow.

On Monday, GPD officers arrested 21-year-old Kelvin Lewis in the 500 block of South Broadway Street.

Lewis was arrested in connection to the early Sunday morning shooting on Eighth Street.

The numbers for Washington County general elections have officially been certified as of Friday afternoon after officials counted absentee ballots.

Mala Brooks was the only non-incumbent to win and increased her 13-vote margin to 154 votes with a 1,381 to 1,227 win over Jesse Amos in the District 4 Supervisor race.

Riverside holds off O’Bannon

The Riverside Bulldogs (1-4) held off fellow Western Line School foe O’Bannon Greenwaves 22-20 in a seesaw gridiron affair Friday night.

Bulldogs junior Eric Kingdom scored on quarterback keeper with 3:21 remaining in the game. The two-point conversion was good and proved to be the margin of victory as Riverside led 22-20.





Honeybee Jakayla Williams earns Planters Bank Player of the Week

Greenville High School junior Jakayla Williams, the Planters Bank Player of the Week, had an opportunity during the offseason and has made the most of it.

Williams was already an outstanding shooter as a sophomore, but this summer she worked hard on all parts of her game to become a complete player.
