Turner no longer city’s zoning and planning department director

After half a year at the helm, Mack-Arthur Turner Jr. will no longer lead the city's planning and zoning department.

Decided by a majority vote of the city council, Turner will no longer serve as the director of planning and zoning for the City of Greenville, effectively immediately.





Legendary Kattawar Brothers a week away from concert at Bass

Cutting a rug for a good cause is exactly what the Greenville Arts Council is giving folks an opportunity to do next weekend.

The Legendary Kattawar Brothers will be performing live in concert from 6:30-8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, at E.E. Bass Auditorium with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.

The best, worst Christmas

Most people have a particular Christmas story they enjoy revisiting every year. My favorite story, however, isn’t about Santa Claus, a magical snowman or flying reindeer. Mine is a World War II story of a Canadian soldier who was captured Christmas Day 1941 while stationed in China and wound up a Japanese Prisoner-of-War for four years.



Area city office hours, trash pickup altered due to Christmas this week

In observance of the Christmas holiday, trash pick up schedules and city hall hours of operation will be affected in Washington County towns and municipalities.

Greenville City Hall will be closed on Tuesday, Christmas Eve, and Wednesday, Christmas Day. 

City Hall will resume its regular hours Thursday.

Local teen charged in uncle’s stabbing death

A Greenville teenager is behind bars for the stabbing death of his uncle.

At 1:13 p.m. Monday, July 15, officers with the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to the 1200 block of Belfast Street. Inside the home, officers found the body of a 37-year-old black male, who has been identified as Jermaine Sanders.

Man arrested, charged for Friday night shooting that left 1 dead, 1 injured

A man has been charged with murder for a shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition.

At 11:30 p.m. Friday, officers with the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of West Alexander Street in reference to two shot people.

Police investigate human remains found on Christmas Day

Greenville police are investigating the remains of a human body discovered on Christmas Day.

Officers with the Greenville Police Department got a call from a concerned resident shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday about human remains found in a wooded area in the 700 block of Clay Street. A firearm was also found next to the body.
