Western Line ranked B for first time, GPSD back to F

Western Line School District has achieved a B rating for the first time in district history, according to the Mississippi Department of Education’s 2018-2019 accountability results.

Also in Washington County, Hollandale School District and Leland School District were ranked D and Greenville Public School District was ranked F.

City approves $86M budget for 2019-20 fiscal year

Residents of Greenville will be receiving another tax increase in the upcoming fiscal year.

At Greenville City Council’s final budget session Monday, all council members except for one voted “yay” for the $86 million dollar budget for the 2019-20 fiscal year. Councilman Bill Boykin was the only council member to vote “nay.”

When Jackie came to town

Editor’s note: Longtime Greenville resident Gil Worth Sr. spent a summer as the batboy for the Atlanta Crackers. Worth, now 86, came to Greenville as a young serviceman for the United States Air Force. He met his wife, Beth, in Greenville and later started a successful tire company.
