LSD passes $6.9M bond this week with mixed reactions

Christmas came early for the Leland School District (LSD) as its second attempt of getting the school bond proposal to pass was successful, this time with an approved amount of $6.9 million.

After the 1,229 machine votes, absentee ballots and affidavits were totaled, there were 775 in favor of the bond and 460 not in favor of it.



Simmons Jr. to play in Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game

Greenville High School senior Errick Simmons Jr. has been added to the roster for the 2019 Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game. The game kicks off at noon this Saturday in Hattiesburg.

Simmons, the Delta Democrat-Times’ Offensive Player of the Year, was a playmaker all season long for the Greenville High School football team.

PACC assists local youth groups in helping others

Two local youth groups kicked off their Thanksgiving break by giving a noble gesture of their own — their time and service.

Sponsored by the Progressive Art and Civic Club (PACC) Youth Affiliates, the Esquires and Teenettes spent their Monday morning volunteering at Port City Personal Care and Respite Services.

Woman charged with attempted murder after fight at gas station

A woman turned herself in to the Greenville Police Department Wednesday afternoon for a violent fight that broke out Tuesday night at a local gas station.

Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant said 34-year-old Jacquetia Davis has been charged with attempted murder for an altercation involving beer bottles and a firearm.



Greenville’s newest hotel, Tru by Hilton, opens its doors Thursday

Tru by Hilton, Greenville’s newest lodging attraction, is set to open its doors to guests Thursday evening. 

The 84-room hotel that broke ground in July 2018 is a joint partnership formed by the Chawla and Retzer families — Suresh Chawla, Mike Retzer and Michael Retzer.
