City, county mull over financial impact from coronavirus pandemic

The City of Greenville and Washington County are both still reeling from what has been a financially challenging past six weeks.

Both local entities discussed hazard pay recently in their respective meetings and the county BOS unanimously voted to provide a month’s hazard pay for county employees at their last regular meeting.

Monday’s Greenville City Council special budget session sparked a voting difference between the council members about charging for trash pickup.

The City of Greenville, compared to other cities throughout the Delta, has never charged to pick up trash in the city, but that’s about to change.

Parishioners ticketed for holding a drive-in service April 8 at  Temple Baptist Church will not have to pay the $500 fine issued in violation of Greenville Mayor Errick Simmons’ executive order restricting indoor and drive-in church gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic.


Police investigate human remains found on Christmas Day

Greenville police are investigating the remains of a human body discovered on Christmas Day.

Officers with the Greenville Police Department got a call from a concerned resident shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday about human remains found in a wooded area in the 700 block of Clay Street. A firearm was also found next to the body.
