Greenville High School’s J.J. Kennedy has only played football for one season, but he has already made an impression as one of the Hornet’s most feared defenders.
Kennedy, a speedy defensive back, will be a senior when Greenville begins its football season this year. He said he learned a lot from his first year on the gridiron.

Mac Hamilton, of Greenville, won the Boys 16 division of the Oxford Summer Tennis Championship on Sunday, July 12. Hamilton, the #2 seed, defeated Davis Warrington of Oxford, Brayden Smith, of Hernando, and upset the #1 seed Charlie Fruge, of Oxford, 6-3, 6-2 in the championship match.

A local man has died after being shot several times early this morning.
At 2:36 a.m., officers with the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to the 1100 block of John Street in reference to shots fired in the area.
Incumbents held on to each of their seats except in the District 4 supervisor vote won by Mala Brooks by a mere 13 votes over incumbent Jesse Amos. The more than 700 absentee ballots have yet to be counted in any races as of press time.
Of the 32,026 registered voters in Washington County, 11001 cast ballots in the Tuesday election.
During Western Line School District’s board meeting on Monday, Superintendent Lawrence Hudson highlighted the success of the district’s students at its two elementary schools, O’Bannon and Riverside.
