GFD’s Fire and Life Safety Festival kicks off with 5K on Saturday

The seventh annual Fire and Life Safety Festival is only a few days away for folks looking for something to do this weekend.

Taking place at Stein Mart Square, the festival is set to officially kick off at 10 a.m. But before people start learning smart safety tips, there will be a Stop, Drop and Run 5K race at 8 a.m.

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Sim Jackson, 64, of Greenville, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Southside Church of Christ, located on U.S. 82 West in Greenville. He died Monday, Sept. 30, 2019. Arrangements are under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Greenville.

HOLLANDALE — As festival season carries on, people in Hollandale are looking to keep the Delta blues merriment going with the annual Sam Chatmon Blues Festival.

Free to the public, this musically jammed packed event is being held for a 23rd time and folks are plenty excited.

The Mississippi Delta heat didn’t stop festival goers from making their way to the Queen City this weekend to get a taste of the blues. 

The 42nd annual Mississippi Delta Blues and Heritage Festival drew about 10,000 people to the Washington County Convention Center fairgrounds Saturday. 



The abused don’t have to stay

When a story of domestic abuse comes to light, the average person’s gut reaction is typically, “Why don’t they just leave?”

What may seem like an obviously simple solution to those who have never been in that situation is anything but.

This week, a Greenville woman died after police say she was attacked by her boyfriend.

Charter School application in process for new Greenville school

Reggie Whitley has started the process of creating a charter school, Relentless Preparatory Academy, with the Mississippi Department of Education Authorizing Board.
