As we made our way through town doing our job of reporting the news about the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had occasion to keep a mental note of businesses that seemed to operating outside the mandates handed down from the Mayor’s office two Tuesdays ago.


River crest increased, Steele Bayou Gates closed

Greenville’s river crest is on the rise, and will reach its highest peak of the year thus far.

The Mississippi River reached flood stage last week, which has happened every month this year.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Greenville gauge measured at 51.2 feet, which is a few feet higher than its 48-foot flood stage.

GPD investigates weekend house fire as homicide

Local authorities are investigating a weekend house fire that left one local man dead.

At about 6:30 a.m. Saturday, the Greenville Fire Department and the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to a house fire at 517 E. Moore St.  

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters found a male body inside the home.

Man arrested, charged for Friday night shooting that left 1 dead, 1 injured

A man has been charged with murder for a shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition.

At 11:30 p.m. Friday, officers with the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of West Alexander Street in reference to two shot people.
