10-year-old Jonathan Bates begins racing career at Gumbo Nationals

Ten-year-old Jonathan Bates Jr. has a fearless personality just like his father and grandfather. It is why he has a love of racing cars and why he is not afraid to keep racing against better competition.

Bates started racing go karts a few years ago, but he has done so well that he is already moved up to race against grown adults.

Greenville’s newest hotel, Tru by Hilton, opens its doors Thursday

Tru by Hilton, Greenville’s newest lodging attraction, is set to open its doors to guests Thursday evening. 

The 84-room hotel that broke ground in July 2018 is a joint partnership formed by the Chawla and Retzer families — Suresh Chawla, Mike Retzer and Michael Retzer.



Western Line ranked B for first time, GPSD back to F

Western Line School District has achieved a B rating for the first time in district history, according to the Mississippi Department of Education’s 2018-2019 accountability results.

Also in Washington County, Hollandale School District and Leland School District were ranked D and Greenville Public School District was ranked F.

Charter School application in process for new Greenville school

An effort to provide an additional education option is underway in Greenville as preparations to apply for a charter school license have been made.
Reggie Whitley has started the process of creating a charter school, Relentless Preparatory Academy, with the Mississippi Department of Education Authorizing Board.
