Several county bridges, roads to stay closed until necessary repairs are made

Several bridges and two roads are currently or will soon be temporarily closed for emergency purposes at the recommendation of the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s Office of State Aid Road Construction.

The two county roads being posted as closed are Dyson and Dogleg roads.

Greenville Christian School boys basketball coach Logan Collins does not want to put any expectations on his players this season, but he is excited about the possibilities.

The Saints have a deep and talented team this season that allows Coach Collins to rotate five players into the game at a time.

Washington County, statewide results are in, absentee ballots still being tallied

Incumbents held on to each of their seats except in the District 4 supervisor vote won by Mala Brooks by a mere 13 votes over incumbent Jesse Amos. The more than 700 absentee ballots have yet to be counted in any races as of press time.

Of the 32,026 registered voters in Washington County, 11001 cast ballots in the Tuesday election.


Reeves wins governor's race

Republicans are keeping their hold on the governorship in Mississippi, despite facing the best-funded Democrat in more than a decade.

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves on Tuesday defeated Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood and two candidates who ran low-budget campaigns.

At Thursday’s weekly Greenville Rotary Club Meeting, District Governor for Rotary 6820 Mark Fields delivered a keynote message that encompassed the ruthless efforts toward eliminating the polio virus and expanding the Rotary’s connection to the world.

Greenville’s newest hotel, Tru by Hilton, opens its doors Thursday

Tru by Hilton, Greenville’s newest lodging attraction, is set to open its doors to guests Thursday evening. 

The 84-room hotel that broke ground in July 2018 is a joint partnership formed by the Chawla and Retzer families — Suresh Chawla, Mike Retzer and Michael Retzer.
