Hebrew Union Temple to honor history at Hanukkah celebration

The Mississippi Delta’s Jewish population may be small, but the heart of their annual Hanukkah celebration is not.

“It’s a festive luncheon,” said Rabbi Debra Kassoff of the Hebrew Union Temple in Greenville. Hanukkah this year starts at sunset Dec. 22 and ends at nightfall Dec. 30. 





The best, worst Christmas

Most people have a particular Christmas story they enjoy revisiting every year. My favorite story, however, isn’t about Santa Claus, a magical snowman or flying reindeer. Mine is a World War II story of a Canadian soldier who was captured Christmas Day 1941 while stationed in China and wound up a Japanese Prisoner-of-War for four years.

Local teen charged in uncle’s stabbing death

A Greenville teenager is behind bars for the stabbing death of his uncle.

At 1:13 p.m. Monday, July 15, officers with the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to the 1200 block of Belfast Street. Inside the home, officers found the body of a 37-year-old black male, who has been identified as Jermaine Sanders.

Man arrested, charged for Friday night shooting that left 1 dead, 1 injured

A man has been charged with murder for a shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition.

At 11:30 p.m. Friday, officers with the Greenville Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of West Alexander Street in reference to two shot people.
