ROSEDALE — Graveside services for Derrick Preshawn Lewis, 48, of Rosedale, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 4, at New Hope Cemetery, Rosedale, with Pastor Elnora Littleton officiating. He died Friday, June 26, 2020, at his home. Services are under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

On Monday, the Washington County Board of Supervisors voted 4 to 1 to work with the Greenville Historic Preservation committee in the relocation of the Confederate statue on the Washington County Courthouse grounds to another county site at the expense of the county.
In 2001 the citizens of the State of Mississippi adopted the current flag in a landslide state referendum. While the vote was essentially a referendum to adopt a new flag, it was actually to correct a legislative oversight in the constitution of 1906.
The Washington County Board of Supervisors voted this week 4-1 to enter into an agreement for removal of the confederate soldier’s memorial from the lawn of the Washington County Courthouse in the same month it was placed 111 years prior.
