Senior archers taking life skills with them despite no last shots

Gavin Wells and Leanna Boozer are two Washington School archers who never got a chance to shoot for a championship this season.

Despite this disappointment, they both say they are thankful for the four years they each spent on the General archery team, and they will take the lessons they learned with them for the rest of their lives.

Washington School’s Hannah Ashley was recently awarded one of two educational scholarships given each year by the Mississippi Tennis Association. Hannah earned the scholarship not just for her excellent grades in the classroom, but also for her service in the community.

A few years ago, the Steve Miller Band released a very fitting song that had lyrics within that were more memorable than the song’s title. “Time keeps on slippin’ slippin’ slippin into the future” is the catchy part of the song, but the song’s title, “Fly Like an Eagle” provides advice on how to best spend that time.

Feds back Temple Baptist Church, Simmons stands firm on order

After fines were levied against members of Temple Baptist Church for holding a drive-in church service, the Alliance for Defending Freedom filed a civil suit in the Northern District Court of Mississippi on Good Friday, April 10.

The federal government, through the Department of Justice, issued a statement of interest Tuesday.

LELAND — There’s only a week left for folks to hop on over to Leland for a day of live music and family fun at the Frog Fest and Highway 61 Blues Festival.

In lieu of this year’s canceled Mighty Mississippi Music Festival, the 20th annual Highway 61 Blues Festival is returning to its home base of Leland.
