Sheriff’s department in need of new consoles

The Washington County Sheriff’s Department is in need of new consoles after lighting strikes wreaked havoc on their radio system.

At the Washington County Board of Supervisors’ Monday morning meeting, Emergency Management Division director David Burford talked about what it would take to acquire new consoles for the department.

GREENVILLE — Memorial services for Wiley Thomas “Tommy” Williams Jr., 72, of Greenville, will be at 3 p.m.,Sunday, Oct. 6,  at Emmanuel Baptist Church. He passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at his home. Arrangements are under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

St. Joseph Catholic School head football coach John Baker puts things bluntly when asked about his team’s home game this Friday night against Pillow Academy.

“This is, by far, the best team that we have played in years,” Coach Baker said. “There is no doubt about it. We have not played a team this good in a long time.”

Winterville Mounds hosting fourth annual meeting Sunday

The Winterville Mounds Association (WMA) is having its fourth annual meeting at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Winterville Mounds Museum.

Principal Chief Hutke Fields of the Notchie (Natchez) Nation will be the featured speaker.  

Native American foods will be served, and annual dues and donations will be collected at the meeting.
