Washington County, statewide results are in, absentee ballots still being tallied

Incumbents held on to each of their seats except in the District 4 supervisor vote won by Mala Brooks by a mere 13 votes over incumbent Jesse Amos. The more than 700 absentee ballots have yet to be counted in any races as of press time.

Of the 32,026 registered voters in Washington County, 11001 cast ballots in the Tuesday election.


Reeves wins governor's race

Republicans are keeping their hold on the governorship in Mississippi, despite facing the best-funded Democrat in more than a decade.

Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves on Tuesday defeated Democratic Attorney General Jim Hood and two candidates who ran low-budget campaigns.

Burglaries to be prosecuted by AG

A case involved in a string of 2017 holiday season burglaries in Gamwyn-Wilzin Park is being prosecuted by the Attorney General's office.

Fourth Circuit Court District Attorney W. Dewayne Richardson, whose home is among the residences that were broken into, has recused himself in the case.
