Safety tips for surviving dangerously hot summer days

It’s the middle of summer, and the scorching outdoor temperatures are a sure reminder of that.

Over the weekend, the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for the region, including Washington County.

Although the heat advisory is over as of today, the temperatures outside are still dangerously hot.

LELAND — There’s only a week left for folks to hop on over to Leland for a day of live music and family fun at the Frog Fest and Highway 61 Blues Festival.

In lieu of this year’s canceled Mighty Mississippi Music Festival, the 20th annual Highway 61 Blues Festival is returning to its home base of Leland.



Greenville police seek public’s help after man found dead in vacant lot

Local police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found lying in a vacant lot Tuesday morning.

Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant said officers with the Greenville Police Department were dispatched at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday for a welfare concern call.

Feds back Temple Baptist Church, Simmons stands firm on order

After fines were levied against members of Temple Baptist Church for holding a drive-in church service, the Alliance for Defending Freedom filed a civil suit in the Northern District Court of Mississippi on Good Friday, April 10.

The federal government, through the Department of Justice, issued a statement of interest Tuesday.
