GRS offers free online ACT Prep session, cut in-person programs

School is out for the summer but ACT Prep is in with Greenville Renaissance Scholars’ (GRS) new, no cost, online ACT Prep offering.

The online ACT Prep program, which GRS is calling “Conquering the Test,” will begin May 30 and run through June 6 with sessions starting each day from 9 a.m. until noon.

17-year-old handed $500k bond on capital murder charges

A teenager was handed a half million dollar bond  this week after his arrest for the murder of a man who was found dead in his home after a house fire.

Officers with the Greenville Police Department arrested 17-year-old Augusta Stribling on Friday and charged him with capital murder for the death of Charles Bowman.

Washington County, statewide results are in, absentee ballots still being tallied

Incumbents held on to each of their seats except in the District 4 supervisor vote won by Mala Brooks by a mere 13 votes over incumbent Jesse Amos. The more than 700 absentee ballots have yet to be counted in any races as of press time.

Of the 32,026 registered voters in Washington County, 11001 cast ballots in the Tuesday election.

Ole Miss student group calls for moving Confederate monument

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — A student government group at the University of Mississippi is calling for the relocation of a Confederate monument to the Confederate cemetery on campus.

The Associated Student Body Senate resolution passed the ASB Rules Committee on Thursday. The full Senate will hold a final vote at its meeting Tuesday.
