PACC thanks DRMC staff for frontline service during pandemic

Landon Hughes, a student at St. Joseph Catholic School, wanted to do something to show his appreciation to those on the front lines in the community who are fighting COVID-19.

“I was tired of just sitting at home and thinking about how much appreciation I had for them. I wanted to actually do something about,” Hughes said.

SHELBY — Graveside services for Yvonne Russell, 71, of Shelby, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at Azion MB Church Cemetery, Mound Bayou, with the Rev. Toliver officiating. She died Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Shelby Nursing and Rehab. Services are under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Like all restaurants and bars throughout the region, Spectators Pub and Eatery went through lean times once the coronavirus pandemic hit. But, the establishment, located at 139 S. Walnut St., recently opened with many new improvements.

Washington School’s Hannah Ashley was recently awarded one of two educational scholarships given each year by the Mississippi Tennis Association. Hannah earned the scholarship not just for her excellent grades in the classroom, but also for her service in the community.

Police investigate human remains found on Christmas Day

Greenville police are investigating the remains of a human body discovered on Christmas Day.

Officers with the Greenville Police Department got a call from a concerned resident shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday about human remains found in a wooded area in the 700 block of Clay Street. A firearm was also found next to the body.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Martha and Jackie Gunter, of Greenville, Jean Pohlman and the late Bob Pohlman, and Frances Saxton and the late Sam Saxton.
