New Orleans native Lapeyre battles final round wind to claim Future Tour Championship

The windy conditions did nothing to slow down Liza Lapeyre’s golf game Sunday.

After shooting a 75 on Saturday, Lapeyre fired a 3-under-par 69 on Sunday to claim the top prize in the Girls 13-18 year-old division at the Future Tour Championship at Greenville Golf and Country Club.

She died Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at Methodist Healthcare, Memphis, Tennessee. Services were under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Jonathan Bates Jr. does not believe his fellow race car drivers take him too seriously when they glance his way and see an 11-year-old kid behind the wheel. But their demeanors quickly change, said Bates, once he speeds by them on the race track and flashes his wide grin.

Temple Baptist Church members issued $500 tickets for parking lot service

The phone rang at the mayor’s office earlier this week and the voice on the line said, “We’re having church on Wednesday, no matter what.”

The caller, according to Greenville Mayor Errick Simmons, claimed to be the pastor of Temple Baptist Church on Reed Road in Greenville.
