When the Cardinals and Cubs face one another, it makes for one of baseball’s fiercest rivalries.

At the Delta Sportsplex, the seven-and-eight-year-old version of these marquee teams didn’t disappoint on Monday. In an offensive contest where the Cubs doubled up the Cards 18-9, it was the defense that made the difference.

City residents to pay for trash pickup starting in October

Monday’s Greenville City Council special budget session sparked a voting difference between the council members about charging for trash pickup.

The City of Greenville, compared to other cities throughout the Delta, has never charged to pick up trash in the city, but that’s about to change. 


Police investigate human remains found on Christmas Day

Greenville police are investigating the remains of a human body discovered on Christmas Day.

Officers with the Greenville Police Department got a call from a concerned resident shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday about human remains found in a wooded area in the 700 block of Clay Street. A firearm was also found next to the body.

Teen arrested for shooting that injured man in store

A teenager has been arrested and charged for a shooting this week that injured a man at a local store.

Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant said 18-year-old Romeo Hurt, of Greenville, was identified as the suspect who shot into a store in the 900 block of St. Charles Street shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Greenville - Funeral services for Walter Howard Sr., 94, of Greenville, will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Greenville, Saturday April 27 at 10 a.m. Father Tom Mulley will be officiating. Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Greenville and 6-7 p.m. at Rosary.
