Some of the results from Washington County’s general election held last month may not be official, just yet.
A petition to contest the Nov. 5 election was filed Nov. 25 in the Circuit Court of Washington County by Samuel Begley, attorney for Washington County District 4 Supervisor, Jesse Amos.

Greenville police are searching for the person responsible for the shooting death of a local man.
At about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, officers with the Greenville Police Department were called to the 300 block of North Steele Lane in reference to a shot person.
A man is behind bars for a shooting that sent a 12-year-old girl to a Jackson hospital, and more arrests are expected to follow.
On Monday, GPD officers arrested 21-year-old Kelvin Lewis in the 500 block of South Broadway Street.
Lewis was arrested in connection to the early Sunday morning shooting on Eighth Street.
The numbers for Washington County general elections have officially been certified as of Friday afternoon after officials counted absentee ballots.
Mala Brooks was the only non-incumbent to win and increased her 13-vote margin to 154 votes with a 1,381 to 1,227 win over Jesse Amos in the District 4 Supervisor race.

In the Washington County Primaries, there were no upsets of sitting elected officials. Incumbent, and unopposed Circuit Clerk Barbara Esters-Parker garnered the highest vote total of 5,066. The largest margin in a contested race went to Sheriff Milton Gaston at 4,488 votes or 83.42%.

Greenville – Funeral services for David Delane McGarrh, 61, are 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019, at Chesterville Baptist Church, Tupelo. He died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center Inpatient Hospice, Tupelo.
A teenager has been arrested and charged for a shooting this week that injured a man at a local store.
Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant said 18-year-old Romeo Hurt, of Greenville, was identified as the suspect who shot into a store in the 900 block of St. Charles Street shortly after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Incumbents held on to each of their seats except in the District 4 supervisor vote won by Mala Brooks by a mere 13 votes over incumbent Jesse Amos. The more than 700 absentee ballots have yet to be counted in any races as of press time.
Of the 32,026 registered voters in Washington County, 11001 cast ballots in the Tuesday election.
