Scott Christensen, Delta Health System Chief Executive Officer, announced that Delta Health-The Medical Center and Mississippi Delta Family Medicine Residency teams will be providing COVID-19 vaccines in communities across the Delta Region through a COVID-19 Mobile Clinic.
“The COVID-19 Mobile Clinic is a game-changer for our team to be able to get to the communities that need the vaccine but might have difficulties getting to one of our clinics. As an organization, our primary role is delivering superior, efficient, and compassionate healthcare to our patients and citizens across the region,” said Christensen. “As we move throughout the rural communities, my wish is that people will feel more comfortable receiving the vaccine right in their own neighborhood.”
Traveling to the various locations tackles some of the different reasons people might not be getting vaccinated: Distance, lack of transportation, and work schedule. Our goal has always been to provide the highest level of care throughout the pandemic, and we feel that this gets everyone one step closer to achieving a more secure way of life,” said Amy Walker, Chief Nursing Officer.
The Medical Center is leasing the mobile unit from LIFECORE allowing the medical teams the ability to take the COVID-19 vaccine into communities, starting with the pilot event in Leland, MS. On Friday, April 9, 2021, the unit will be located at the Getwell Building, 302 North Main Street, Leland, from 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Family Medicine Residents, nursing staff and medical assistants will be administering the vaccine to anyone over the age of 18.
Future cities include Belzoni, Clarksdale, Greenville, Hollandale, Merigold, Metcalfe, Rosedale, Senatobia, Shaw, and Tchula.
“If your city or town is interested in our mobile unit, we would love to talk with you. Call Kim Dowdy, at 662-725-2830. The more communities we visit, the more people we can vaccinate,” said Walker.
