With the contract for the services of Hayes Dent Public Strategies approaching its April 30 deadline, the Washington County Board of Supervisors voted 3 to 1 for a notice of termination during their regular Monday meeting.
District 1 Supervisor Lee Gordon made the motion to terminate contractual services and District 2 Supervisor Tommy Benson seconded the motion.
District 5 Supervisor Jerry Redmond abstained from the vote.
BOS president Carl McGee, Gordon and Benson voted in favor of the termination with District 4 supervisor Mala Brooks voting opposed.
Dent was hired in February 2020 as a strategist/lobbyist for Washington County with a total fee of $50,000 payable in 12 monthly installments of $4,166.66 with the first installment being May 31, 2020 according to the BOS order of authorization.
The retainer agreement provided that Hayes Dent would represent Washington County in matters regarding state and federal government relations and other tasks as requested by the county in addition to performing other services as directed by the county consistent with the terms of the agreement.
