Four Emergency Road and Bridge Repair (ERBR) projects were approved at Monday’s regular Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting.
Those projects include Priscilla Road, Bassi Road just north of Leland, Stone Airport Road, Eifling Road as well as a county bridge project on Greer Road.
The board received bid tabulations for the four ERBR projects from Hooker Engineering.
The contracts for those projects were unanimously approved in which bids were presented by engineer Mark Hooker.
The Priscilla Road (ERBR-7601) project was awarded to the low bidder, Malouf Construction of Greenwood for $705,788.
J.J. Ferguson Sand & Gravel Company was awarded as the low bidder at $410,853.33 for the Bassi Road (ERBR-7603) project and awarded the Eifling Road (ERBR-7607) project as well at $327,602.
The Stone Airport Road (ERBR-7606) project was awarded to low bidder Fordice Construction Company of Vicksburg at $310,610.60.
District 5 Supervisor Jerry Redmond inquired about a time frame for ongoing projects.
“We’ve set about 120 working days for each project and, so far, they haven’t had a problem,” Mark Hooker Sr. said. “It’s pretty much in line with what the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) does with working days projects.”
As opposed to calendar days, which can potentially run bids upward, Hooker said they implement working days for projects.
Doing so allows for consideration of inclement weather or similar circumstances and if workers are not able to work, no charges will be incurred and they can be paid on an actual working day.
Hooker added two ERBR bridges on Smiley Road and Petes Dump Road are projected to be completed in about two months, if weather conditions allow.
