Economic tour holds meeting

The Mississippi Economic Council will be bringing its statewide tour to Washington County this week.

The event, which is hosted by the Washington County Economic Alliance and sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi, will be held 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Greenville Golf and Country Club, 2476 Mississippi 1 S.

Residents who live in Washington County will be able to give their input, feedback, and insight to MEC representatives including Scott Waller, president and CEO of the Mississippi Economic Council, who is the event’s guest speaker, said Will Coppage, deputy director for the Washington County Economic Alliance.

“It allows residents to kind of have a voice with some of the policies and initiatives going forward,” he said. “MEC has been a huge voice and advocate for workforce and workforce training.’

For those who attend, lunch will be provided. Although there is no cost to attend the event, pre-registration is required.

Washington County is one of 20 location stops on the MEC tour, which focuses on enhancing Mississippi’s opportunities including economic competitiveness, job creation, workforce and educational achievement, business climate and workplace wellness.

MEC’s mission is to build a sense of statewide community by connecting business leaders, community advocates as well as local and state elected officials, and in doing so, make Mississippi a great place to live and do business.
