Previously used as an extension of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, the old APAC building located at 805 Harvey St. is facing demolition.
Washington County building and grounds director Donald Davis submitted a report to the Washington Board of Supervisors with results from a mold and asbestos analysis performed by Lesure’s Demolition and Excavation.
The results showed the building has a mold infestation as well as asbestos contamination.
Davis said the building is at the point where it needs to be removed as it would be a “hazard” for anyone to go inside.
District 1 Supervisor Lee Gordon said his thoughts moving forward would be to tear the building down and take steps to construct another one.
The BOS authorized Davis to obtain a quote for demolition as well as asbestos abatement.
Davis also informed the BOS that Warfield Point Park is prepared for Recreational Vehicle parking.
Supervisor Lee Gordon, who inquired about the park’s readiness, made a motion to allow RV parking only at Warfield Point Park and Supervisor Jerry Redmond seconded the motion.
It was decided upon unanimously to allow RV parking to resume at Warfield Point Park.
