With Hurricane Delta heading for the Mississippi Delta, the Self-Serve Sandbagging Site is currently open.
Sand and bags are available at the Expo Building on the north end of the Washington County Convention Center grounds, 1040 S. Raceway Road, in Greenville. Those who come must bring their own shovel.
The Office of Emergency Management has advised people clean up or anchor objects in their lawns this afternoon that could be carried away by strong winds and cause injury and damage.
The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Washington County. The current forecast shows the storms from Hurricane Delta moving into the region Friday afternoon and tropical storm conditions continuing through Saturday morning.
There will be a limited threat of sustained winds, which are expected to reach 20-25 mph, gusting to 30-40 mph.
There is a chance for isolated power outages and damage from weak trees breaking or falling.
There is an elevated threat for rain, with 4 to 8 inches of rain expected with local flash flooding in low lying areas and poor drainage areas. Rain is expected to continue through Sunday morning or afternoon.
Throughout the duration of the storm, there will be a marginal threat for tornadoes in the southeastern half of the county.
