The club was honoring the folks who have been on the front line of both medical assistance and community assistance during the pandemic.

Police investigating body found on sidewalk Sunday morning

A man who died from several gunshot wounds was found lying on a sidewalk this morning. 

Assistant Police Chief Michael Merchant said police received a welfare concern call from a local resident who found the body of the 26-year-old black male, whose name has not been released, in the 800 block of Union Street.

Alderman makes most of opportunity

It’s been a whirlwind week for former Newton County Academy standout Kemp Alderman.

In just a week’s time, Alderman went from being a redshirt to the toast of Oxford.

On Tuesday, Alderman started in left field for Ole Miss in a win over Arkansas-Little Rock. Alderman went 1-for-4 in the game, getting his first collegiate hit.

Sanders Williams, 53, turned himself in to the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Department for shooting and killing Wanda Williams, 53, in the couple’s home in the 1400 block of Ollie Circle in Greenville.

A man has turned himself in to police in for the shooting death of a woman he was in a relationship with.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were on the scene at Paul's Jewelry on Front Street in Indianola on Friday morning.

17-year-old handed $500k bond on capital murder charges

A teenager was handed a half million dollar bond  this week after his arrest for the murder of a man who was found dead in his home after a house fire.

Officers with the Greenville Police Department arrested 17-year-old Augusta Stribling on Friday and charged him with capital murder for the death of Charles Bowman.

Hot temps a reminder summer is not over yet

School may be back in session for some, but summer is far from over.

Earlier this week, Washington County was under a heat advisory with the head index reaching up to 108 degrees. Today, temperatures have slightly dropped with temperatures reaching a high of 93 degrees and the heat index reaching 102 degrees.

GREENVILLE — Detlev Werbeck, 77, passed away Thursday, July 23, 2020, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. He was born May 15, 1943, in Germany. He worked at Texas Gas Company as a supervisor in Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Gertrude Werbeck.
