HOUSTON, Texas — The viewing for Barbara Michelle Matthews-Barber, 55, of Houston, Texas, and formerly of Greenville, will be from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Mortimer Funeral Home, 711 Highway 82 E., Greenville. She died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020. A graveside burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville.
Barbara was born into a loving family with strong Christian values. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, baptized at a young age at New Hope Church. She later relocated to Houston, Texas, where she devoted most of her energy to being with her family, having fun with friends and always caring for others.
Barbara was always helpful to many people in so many different ways. She had a passion for the healthcare field, working as a healthcare provider until becoming a business woman. She was always about business. Barbara was a member of Koinonia Sorority and an active member of City Cathedral Church in the Woodlands. She loved to organize and decorate (bling-bling) at all the events she attended.
Barbara was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gloss and Rosie Lee Thompson and Louis and Beulah Matthews; a brother, Carl Edward Matthews; and a sister, Marion Elise Matthews.
Barbara leaves her legacy and memories to remember her husband, Raymond Earl Barber; children from her previous marriage, Troy Howard, Kimberly S. Howard, Troyetta R. Howard and Erreton D. Howard; a sister, Carolyn (David) Williams; a brother, Roosevelt (Faye) Matthews Jr.; parents, Roosevelt Sr. and Dorothy Matthews; grandchildren, Zavier T. Howard, Tony A. Brown Jr., Erreton D. Howard and Trinity S. Howard; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
