GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Edna Earl McKnight Merritt, 80, of Greenville, were held Monday at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. She passed away Friday, June 26, 2020, at Delta Regional Medical Center. Burial will be in the Leland-Stoneville Cemetery, under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
She was born Aug. 8, 1939, to Thomas Albert and Lela Bell Yates McKnight.
Edna worked as a waitress at Gus’ and the Alamatt and had also owned her own Cafe’. She loved gardening and taking care of others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas “Tom” Merritt; daughter, Kathleen “Kathy” Hendon; five sisters, Lexie, Dorothy, Helen, Earlene, and Bobby Sue; and four brothers, Emmett, James, Arvel and William.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Baker (Leroy), of Greenville, Evelyn Smutzer (Joe), of Greenville; a son, Michael “Bubba” Thompson, of Tupelo; two sisters, Linda Bowen, of Cleveland, and Ann Horton, of Boyle; a brother, Bud Hodges, of Indianola; nine grandchildren, Lisa, Steven, Brandy, Stacey, Joe, Heather, Clint, Cody and Christian; 17 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation from 1-2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
