BELZONI — Eunice Geanice Cox Boyles, Granny, gained her wings to Heaven on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2019, after an extended illness. She was surrounded by loved ones as she passed away peacefully at the age of 93.
Granny was born Nov. 19, 1926, to Morrice and Maude Causey Cox, in Louisiana. While primarily a mother and housewife, she did work for a period of time at Jockey International. Granny was one of the best cooks in the area and cooked for a number of years at Riverside High School. Her grandchildren loved her fried chocolate pies. One of her favorite pastimes was dancing. She danced as often as she could and was seen at times in places her children were unaware she went. One time one of her children went out dancing and found their mom there. When they asked her what she was doing there, she basically told them it was none of their business. Once, she told one of her granddaughters, (Kim Hearn) to go sit down so she could dance with her cowboy husband (Martin). From then, he was her cowboy to dance with. Her grandson, Ellis Willard, and step-grandson, Jonathan Snyder, took her dancing every Saturday night to Partners in Grenada, where she had a lifetime membership. Granny Eunice Boyles was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints. She loved her church family to the end.
Granny was preceded in death by parents, Morrice and Maude Cox; her loving husband, Cecil; a son, Cecil; daughter, Judy; and two grandchildren.
She leaves behind to cherish their memories of Granny, sons, William Boyles (Barbara), of Avon, and James Boyles (Michele), of Rockwall, Texas; daughters, Jean Hearn (Jerry), Anquilla, and “Mama Dee” Dianne Engle (Cliff), of Belzoni. She also leaves behind, the most precious gifts of her life, 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves several nieces and nephews as well as a host of friends.
Services will be held Saturday Dec. 14, at Mortimer Funeral Home, Belzoni. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m. Interment to follow at Hollandale City Cemetery, under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home, Belzoni.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Gorton, Grace Hospice, Sherry Barbara Gates, Helen Rosenthal, Emily Shepard, and Belzoni Respiratory.
