GREENVILLE — A open stroll-through viewing for L’Vee Preston Martin, 93, of Greenville, will be from 1-5 p.m. Wednesday, Sep 2, at New Hope First Baptist Church, Greenville. She died Aug. 22, 2020, at Delta Regional Medical, Greenville. Services are under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.
L’Vee Martin was a faithful member of New Hope First Baptist Church, president of the Deaconess Board, a Christian education leader, a 44-year public school educator, a lifelong learner who obtained a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Mississippi Vocational College (now Mississippi Valley State University) and Indiana University, respectively, and a proud recipient of an honorary doctorate and numerous certifications. She was a mother of her community, a church youth leader, a guiding supporter of the Girl Scouts and the 4-H Club, and a NAACP Mother of the Year. Meanwhile, she and her husband, Robert T. Martin Sr., were 40-year proprietors of Martin’s Cleaning Center. Her parents were the late Lorenzo and Elnora Peyton Preston.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert T. Martin Sr.; son, Leonard E. Martin, of Los Angeles, CA; brothers, Napoleon Preston and Jerome Preston; and sisters, Juanita Preston and Susie Mae Stewart.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Robert T. Martin Jr., (Irma), of Southfield, MI; Sherrie A. Cook, of Montgomery, AL; Deloris Martin (Leonard – Deceased), of Los Angeles, CA; Darris L. Martin, son who returned to Greenville as her caretaker; and her son, Eric Lewis Martin; grandchildren Sunseia-Rae Martin, Detroit, MI; Elgin Cooper (Kristin), of Troy, MI, Cassandra Coretta Cook, of Atlanta, GA; Angela Nicole Martin and Joshua Leonard Martin, both of Long Beach, CA; great-grandchildren, Garrin Alan (Jeannie) Martin, of Waterford, MI; Alexis Kay Cooper, and Lauren Kay Cooper, both of Troy, MI; great-great grandchild Dottie Rae Martin, of Waterford, MI; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
