GREENVILLE — Marty Lee Smith, 63, of Greenville, died at his home Thursday April 23, 2020, surrounded by his family. Marty was born in Humphreys County, Mississippi, on Sept. 15, 1956, to Walton and Nadine Smith. He attended Humphreys Academy, Mississippi Delta Community College, where he was a member of The T.J.’S Band, and Mississippi State University.
He was a Member of First Baptist Church of Belzoni; and The Greenville Elks Lodge BPOE 148. In his early years, Marty was intrigued by music and became a member of the band Junction. He was an avid salesman ranging from cars to tractors to catfish and so much more. He was also a diehard New Orleans Saints Football fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Smith; his parents, Walton and Nadine Smith; and his brother, Walton D. Smith Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Natalie Hughes Hodges (Mark), of Oxford; his two Grandsons Will and Alan Hughes, of Oxford, and Rob, Kathryn, and Erica Keller, of Greenville; three sisters, Helen Henson (Bobby), of Greenville, Beatrice Price (Bobby), of Isola, and Dianne Herren (Charles) of Southaven; one brother, Gene Smith (Linda), of Leesville, Louisiana; special friend, Teresa Key; his wonderful hospice nurse, Ashanti Phillips; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Honorary Pallbearer’s are Ken Beard, Larry Coleman, Ricky Cooper, Whitey Hinyub, Jerry McBride, and Trey Smith.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 25, at Greenville Cemetery. Immediately following will be a family reception at his home, 1100 Coverdale, Greenville.
