GREENVILLE — Graveside services for Mary Bell Williams, 97, of Greenville, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020, at Delta Memorial Gardens, Greenville, with the Rev. Donald T. Benson officiating.
Mary Bell Williams was born Aug. 14, 1923, to Bennie Mitchell and Beatrice Weathers, in Greenville. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Old Jerusalem Church, under the leadership of the Rev. Henderson. There, she served on the Usher Board for many years. She later joined Greater Pleasant Green MB Church, under the leadership of the Rev. B.T. Benson and now the Rev. Donald T. Benson. She attended school in Greenville and worked at Chicago Mill. She was a domestic worker in many homes. Her most rewarding employment was being a babysitter for many. No matter the race, she was a believer in switches and belts. Everyone had a story to tell but it always ended in, “but she loved us though.”
She departed this life Oct. 8, 2020, at Delta Regional Medical Center. After being greeted by our Lord and Savior, she was then welcomed by her mother and father; her daughters, Willie Doris Fairchild, Johnnie Louise Lee and Bertha Marie Lee; and her brother, James Phillips.
Her survivors who she cherished dearly are: her daughter who she adopted, Doris Marie Ell; a nephew who was a son to her, Gregory Byars Jr.; a niece who was a daughter to her, Shanika Byars; nieces who were sisters by law, Felicia Matthews, Monica Williams and Beatrice Baker; she also leaves to cherish her memories, six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends whom she dearly loved.
