Melvin Gary
GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Melvin C. Gary, 93, of Greenville, will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 26, at Restoration Church. He passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.
He was born in Isola on Dec. 15, 1926, and raised in Greenville, where he lived his whole life. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He lived for and loved God with all his heart, and he loved his church. He owned and operated Gary’s Auto Sales, Pawn Shop and Car Wash for 16 years after retiring from Sears & Roebuck. He was a veteran of WWII, where he served as a medic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John W. and Sally Downing Gary; siblings, Jodie Gary, Dollie Tatum, Willie Bell Burcham, Maudine Gary, Pauline Cale, John C. Gary, Thelma Wolfe, William T. Gary, and Claudie Gary; and one grandchild, Sonya Renee Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean Gary; three daughters, Teresa Terry (Casey), Vicki Jenkins (Lamar) and Denise Laney (Russ); grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Preston) Fuqua and their children, Josh, Devon and Autumn, Kimberly (John) Smith and their children, Kerstin (Colton) and John-Michael, Brook Holland and his children, Kaitlyn, Merideth and Aiden, Nicolas (Mary) Laney, Chase (Beth) Laney and his children, Emily, Zach, Bella and Hannah (Jamin) Lizotte and their son, Cahill, and Alison (Kyle) Stinnett.
There will be a visitation from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the services at the church.
