GREENVILLE — Graveside services for Mildred Holmes Crockett, 70, of Greenville, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Oaklawn Cemetery, Greenville, with Pastor Alfred Redmond Jr. officiating. She died Friday, June 19, 2020. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Friday, June 26, at Byas Funeral Home, Greenville.
On Friday, June 19, 2020, Mildred Holmes Crockett returned to her heavenly home. Mildred was born to the late George and Georgia Holmes in Fitler on Oct. 10, 1949.
Mildred gave her life to Christ at an early age at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Fitler and later joined Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary for many years. She moved her membership to Mount Ararat Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the Rev. Billy D. Robinson.
In 1968, Mildred graduated from Henry Weathers High School in Sharkey County. She graduated from Alcorn A&M College in 1973. She received two Masters of Education in 1979 and in 2000 from Delta State University. Mildred was employed with Greenville Public School district for 30 years as social studies teacher and school administrator. Mildred was a member of Eta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Washington County Alcorn Alumni Association, National Education Association, and served as a Board of Trustee at Delta Credit Union and Delta Regional Medical Center.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Harry Crockett, Sr.; three children, Tawnya C. Holliman, Harry Crockett, Jr. (Tameka), and Harriet Crockett Woods (Jarvis); one sister, Annie Johnson (Harvest); and three grandchildren.
