Thomas Dobbs

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Thomas Jesse "Tommy" Dobbs, 74, of Greenville, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at Boone Funeral Home, Greenville. He passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at his home. Burial will be in the Hollandale City Cemetery, under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Dobbs was born in Greenville on Feb. 2, 1945, the son of Jesse Dobbs and Zettie Dantzler Dobbs. He graduated in May 1963 from Riverside High School, where he played football and baseball. On July 11, 1964, he married Dorothy Bagley, of Greenville.

Mr. Dobbs worked for BellSouth Telephone Company, retiring in 1997 with 34 years of service. After his retirement, he continued working and worked for Child's Electrical, JSI in Pearl, NewSouth Marine and Lakeside Telephone Company.

He was a member of Avon United Methodist Church and served as former church trustee at Swiftwater Baptist Church and served as former trustee of Western Line School Board. Mr. Dobbs enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He was a past member of Rocky Branch Hunting Club in Lexington, Shady Grove Hunting Club in Kosciusko and was a member of the Greenville Rifle and Pistol Club.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carl Dobbs; and sister, Ruth Dobbs Wilkinson. 

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Bagley Dobbs; two sons, Thomas V. Dobbs (Letty) and Robert A. Dobbs (Beth); two granddaughters, Karey Jones (Chris) and Karlyn Findley (Tyler); three grandsons, Tory Dobbs (Wendy), Gage Dobbs, and Tyler Dobbs; six great-grandchildren, Eli Dobbs, Christian Dobbs, Hayden Dobbs, Anna Leigh Dobbs, Lawson Muirhead and Autumn Findley; brother, Waymon Dobbs (Betty); sister, Sandra Spearman (Barry); sister-in-law, Judy Shields and a host of nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the ALS Foundation.
