BENOIT — Thomas Cunningham Ewing, 91, of Benoit, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, at home. Private graveside services were held for the immediate family. Boone Funeral Home, Greenville, was in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Scott to Early Cunningham and Emma Bell Ewing. He attended Mississippi State University and graduated from UCLA. After a time in the U.S. Air Force, he returned to Benoit and began a 35-year career with Bostick Brothers. He earned his Professional Engineering License, and moved to Baton Rouge to work for G and E Environmental Company until he retired and moved back to Benoit.
Tommy helped organize the Benoit Lion’s Club and the Benoit Volunteer Fire Department. He was active in the Benoit Union Church, Boy Scout Troop 1 and various professional organizations.
He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Janie Thornton Ewing; son, Thomas C. Ewing Jr. (Dawn), of Brandon; daughter, Barbara Madison (Mike), of Petal; grandchildren, Rebecca Ewing, of Austin, Texas, Thomas Ewing (Maggie), of Kampala, Uganda, and Caty Madison, of Petal; and great-grandsons, Ellis and George Ewing.
Memorial donations may be made to the Benoit Union Church or a charity of choice.
