Hemphill’s big free throws lead Generals to road victory
After a few stumbling blocks earlier in the season, the Washington School boys basketball team is back on track.
The Generals won their second straight game Tuesday night with a 55-51 road victory over Canton Academy.
Stephon Hemphill led Washington with 15 points. Dawson Gray scored 14 points, and Brett Etheridge scored 12 points.
“We have won our last two games against some pretty good teams,” Washington School coach David Rousavall said. “I am liking the way we are playing heading into the last part of our season.”
The Generals had a seven-point lead late in the fourth quarter of this game when a Canton Academy player nailed down a 3-pointer to make things interesting. But, in the closing minute, Hemphill made two clutch free throws to help ice the game.
Along with Gray, Hemphill and Etheridge, Rounsavall also praised the fine play of sophomore Peyton McPherson, who scored seven points in the game. The Generals next game is at home against Kirk on Friday.
