St. Joseph Catholic School basketball junior Dillon Johnson has been lighting up scoreboards throughout the Delta all season.
Dillon, the Planters Bank Player of the Week, broke a school record when he scored 53 points in a game two weeks ago.
This past week, Dillon was adding more to his legacy.
In the championship game of the District-2AA tournament against Manchester Academy, Dillon scored 43 points as he helped the Fighting Irish claim the championship.
Then, on Tuesday night in St. Joe’s victory over Central Holmes Academy in the opener of the MAIS North AA Tournament in Holly Springs Johnson scored 25 points to lead his team to victory. This victory advances St. Joe to the MAIS Class 2A state tournament next week at Benton Academy.
“Simply amazing,” is how St. Joseph Catholic School coach James Hunter has described a number of Dillon’s performance this season.
Dillon has not just scored a lot of points, but he has also helped turn his team into a consistent. Thanks to his efforts, the Fighting Irish have now won three straight district championships.
St. Joe is scheduled to meet Greenville Christian Friday night in the semifinals of the MAIS North AA Tournament in Holly Springs.
