Honeybees finish regular season 27-0

The Honeybees have completed a perfect regular season.

After a 51-47 hard-fought road victory over Holmes County Central on Tuesday, the Greenville High School girls basketball team is now 27-0.

It is the first time a Greenville High School basketball team has ever had an undefeated regular season.

Greenville High School girls basketball coach Dakedreon Lampkin said the win over Holmes was a total team victory. The coach said clutch free throw shooting an old-fashioned 3-point play by Clarkaju Warren helped seal the win.

“I knew winning that game was not going to be easy,” Lampkin. “We were playing against a 20-win team who had already played us before.”

With the regular season now in the rear view mirror, the Honeybees now move their attention to the district tournament which begins Tuesday in Clinton.

Finishing the season undefeated, for these Honeybees, is a motivation, said the coach.

“A lot of teams win state championships, but how many can say they went undefeated,” Lampkin. “We are definitely using it as motivation.”
